Art Statement: Mixed Media & Photography by M. Levy
M. Levy is a self-taught photographer/artist. He was a photojournalist in college for City on a Hill Press at UC Santa Cruz with access to the paper's darkroom; this provided opportunity for bylines/photo credits in the bimonthly publication.
Levy works in both digital & film photography as well as mixed media with oils & acrylics, salvaged/found materials, photographs, artifacts, news print & other printed materials. His mixed media & photography often express nature & culture in juxtaposition.
Levy was reared in the San Joaquin Valley. He works in Special Education & Advocacy between the SF Bay Area & Portland, Oregon. His most recent work includes Dharma Art- expressing the Soto Zen influence in California & the Pacific Northwest- blending cultures of East & West, ancient wisdom & modernity. His research interest is the impact of globalization on indigenous culture & biodiversity in southern Mexico & the Mayan Tropics.
